You know that feeling you get when you discover something that blows your mind then realize it’s been around for a while? Well, shake my head, that happened again today when I read about the Bissell BarkBath Dual Use Portable pet bather and carpet cleaner. Now I’m not purposely advertising, but I’m not afraid to give a shout out for something that is as fun and convenient as this little unit seems to be.
The dual bather came out in 2017 during the time I was taking a break from knowing all-things-animal-related so that explains why I hadn’t heard about it. From what I have read, the current unit sold is a 2nd generation unit with improvements to the no-rinse shampoo and a quieter motor than the 1st gen model.
I am a review junkie, so of course I had to read and view what others have to say. Across the board it rates 6.5 out of 10. The cons were reported by people that thought the process was too messy or preferred a fresh-from-the-groomer result. The pros were reported by people with large breed and senior dogs that have difficulty getting into a bathtub. Those who traveled with show dogs and transported puppies also rated the BarkBath more highly as they were able to clean a pet while far away from a bathtub. Exactly why I would be interested in trying this out. Having a handy-dandy portable bath available ensures pet owners have a fresh smelling companion after a muddy walk or to freshen up a carsick pet passenger.
As for the carpet cleaning function, the reviews were good. I did not find many reviewers complaining that the dual didn’t do the job at cleaning up spots and minor spills. I could see myself using this to clean up after a carsick dog or to sanitize a kennel or critter stroller between scheduled services.
Overall, I think this could be a nice addition, but I’m not convinced that $199.99 is a great investment with a 6.5 rating. My current methods work well, are less bulky and are more economical. I’m waffling though because I love dual purpose, fun gadgets. If the BarkBath dual goes on sale, I’m all in! Let me know if you have tried the Bark Bath Dual or anything like it. I’d love to hear what you think!
